Is a logo the same as a brand?
Your logo is not a brand. A logo forms part of the visual identity of a business. The visual identity is what helps people recognise a promotion or advertisement from a particular company.
If visual identity is done well, you can cover up your logo and the marketing piece still communicates it is from your company. Visual identity is the use of colour, typography, photography, the use of space and shapes, and various other visual elements in your marketing communications.
A brand is what your customer thinks and feels about your company when they purchase, use and interact with your products or services. People have connections to the brands they like and trust. The brand needs to respond to that connection through what it promises to deliver and the values by which it does business.
Why is branding important?
All of the interactions a customer has with your company are potential brand touchpoints. These may be physical, face-to-face, digital, the language used in marketing materials, or even a phone conversation. All of them are part of the customer experience and form a perception in their minds. If they like and trust your company, and believe you provide good value, they will buy from you.
That’s why branding is important and valued by leading companies both big and small. It is vital your branding is consistent and aligns to the brand values of your company. The visual identity is part of the brand experience. It too needs to be consistently designed and displayed so the positive customer experience is reinforced at every opportunity.
At I Spy Design we understand the power of good branding and how it helps small businesses win big.
